The City Council’s highly successful Friday Night Food Trucks series in Cathedral Square has a new home for the Winter. The Commons will host around twenty food trucks on the first Friday of every month from 4 – 9pm.  As well as food, there will be live music and games on the green for the kids. The first Winter Friday Night Food Trucks event in May was a huge success, and helped to raise funds for the Red Cross in Nepal. The final event will be held on Friday 4th September, after which the Market will return to it’s weekly slot at Cathedral Square.

The Cathedral Square food truck series was piloted by CCC over the Summer of 2014. After receiving positive feedback it has been determined that the Council will run the initiative again this Summer, starting from October 2015.

We have the space and facilities here at The Commons to host the food trucks. They’ve been very popular, so we’re happy to do so, albeit monthly rather than weekly. We’ve got all sorts of games at the Retro Sports Facility on site too so we think it will be a great evening out in the city for families once a month. It’s also positive that things can be trialled and tested in this city and move around depending on the circumstances. We’re keen to support this sort of thing in Christchurch.

In the event of wet weather, the event will be postponed to the following Friday.

CCC welcomes further feedback on the Summer Food Trucks in the Square series. It can be given here: http://www.futurechristchurch.co.nz/ever-evolving/foodtrucks
