The Re-Entry Youth Concert was a one-off concert event organised by a group of eight 14-17 year olds from St Andrews College, St Margarets, Cashmere High School and Hagley Community College.

The event was originally envisioned by the students after attending a Gap Filler workshop at White Elephants ‘WE Speak’ Conference in May 2012.  During this workshop which Trent and Coralie presented, students presented their ideas for activating vacant sites.  They were told that one of these ideas could become a reality on a gap, if they wanted to be involved.

Students who registered interest at the end of the workshop then became the Re:Entry organisers. These organisers were involved in planning the event over a period of 5 weeks with Gap Filler and White Elephant. This involved preparing the site and working hard to source what was needed to make the event a success.

Over 150 High School students came along on the night between 7pm and 10pm to listen to bands from Cashmere High School, Boys High School, St Andrews College and CPIT Jazz School (Works End, The Baker, Anikin, Siobhan Russel, Claudia Jardine and The Haze), and to enjoy films made by St Andrews College film students.

The available food and coffee helped create a great atmosphere with good times had by all.  It was fabulous having youth bring life and fun back into the city, despite being surrounded by some very large buildings (Pacific Tower and The Press).

A special thanks go to those students who made it possible, the awesome volunteers who offered their time, the students at MAINZ who mixed the groovy sounds, and The Greenhorn Company who provided the AV.

Re:Entry was held on land owned by Ganellen. A big thank you to them for the use of their land.
