What is placemaking?

Placemaking is a people-centred approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces, where people work together to make places better, not only for themselves but for others and for the place itself.

Ryan Reynolds is Gap Fillers’ Executive Director and one of the founding members of Placemaking Aotearoa. For more information about placemaking more broadly, check out Placemaking Aotearoa.

At Gap Filler our approach to placemaking is informed by a focus on creativity, playful engagement, and civic imagination to support local communities ongoing connection with their places and each other.

Whenever and wherever we work, we spend time engaging authentically with the place in question; its people, its histories and its geography. Our goal is to make a genuine contribution to people and place through work that aligns with our values to deliver a positive social impact.
